“What is discipline?”
“Does punishment work?”
“How can we get the behavior we want in a way that feels good for our relationships?”
“I was spanked as a kid, and I’m fine. What’s the big deal?”
“Can I use rewards to get my kids to behave?”
“My kids don’t stop fighting!”
“Time outs or time ins?”
Every day, parents struggle with how to understand and interpret challenging behavior.
How can we manage challenging behaviors in order to have more ease in our day-to-day? On one hand, there is a wealth of content to support discipline at every age - so many different angles for ages, temperaments, and parenting styles. On the other hand, when in a rush, I like to lean on “all feelings are welcome, all behaviors are not” as a shortcut to how to handle pretty much anything.
For anyone new to Raising Good Humans Podcast, I wanted to share some of the most popular episodes that touch on discipline. These provide some of the background we need on how to help teach our children to manage their behavior successfully, while also recognizing the important role behavior has in helping us understand what our children need.
